Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said Nichols would be out four-to-six weeks one day after the injury occurred. But could he be back sooner: Nichols was on the turf tossing footballs Monday morning.
The 30-year-old left after making a few throws according to Winnipeg Sun reporter Ted Wyman.
Rookie Chris Streveler started at quarterback in Winnipeg’s 33-30 marathon loss to Edmonton, completing 15-of-28 passes for 178 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions and rushed seven times for 30 yards.
The Bombers play in Montreal on Friday night during Week 2.
