You mean in the era when the grey cup was always played in Toronto a month after the western teams had finished their playoffs and the western team would go with the players who could leave their jobs for a week for a 2 to 3 day train ride to toronto, get off, play the game and then get on the train for another 2 to 3 day train ride back home? Oh and by the way if there were differences in rules (remember they were 2 separate leagues back then) the eastern rules applied.

What’s worse ???

Not making it to the GC ? Or, choking the way Calgary has the last two years ? Or how the Riders choked in ‘09, and ‘10 ?

Personally, I’d rather not be in the GC than blow it like that. Losing sucks any time. But choking in the GC has to be a really bitter pill to swallow.

Calgary had all the right ingredients to be a dynasty in the last ten seasons ( 2008-2017 ), but failed to actually become one. Finishing first in the regular season year after year doesn’t mean much if you lose the last game you play every year.

That said…

Calgary may not even be in the GC this year. They have undergone serious change this last off-season. And have had great luck in keeping their starting QB healthy almost every year. It’ll be interesting to see if they can finish first in the West, again this year.

Everything this year will rest on a healthy BLM utilizing the best receiving core in the league to its fullest potential. If BLM is not healthy, or misses time, it could be a long season given the lack of experienced QB depth on the roster. Neither Stanzi or Arbuckle being in charge of the offence for lengthy periods will inspire much confidence with the Stamps faithful.
