Riders cut receiver and returner Chad Owens

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have cut Chad Owens, per sources.

Owens signed with the Riders before the 2017 CFL season and played three games catching 17 balls for 225 yards and one touchdown after fighting through a foot injury last season. The 36-year-old, nine-year veteran can be productive when healthy.

He left practice with an injury on June 1.

Owens has two Grey Cup championships on his resume. He can provide play-making ability as a receiver and returner. The 36-year-old has played eight seasons in the CFL, the five of those with the Argos. His career numbers are Hall-of-Fame worthy, including a 2012 season that saw him set a league record for all-purpose yards and earn the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award.
