Blue Bomber nightmare: injury to Matt Nichols is “bad,” per source

Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback Matt Nichols suffered an injury in training camp today. It was a non-contact injury which happened while Nichols was dropping back to pass in a drill.

The injury to Nichols’ leg is “bad,” per source, an early prognosis that should (obviously) be of major concern to Bomber fans. Nichols has torn his ACL once before (2013) and we’ve recently seen a CFL starter (Darian Durant, 2015) tear an Achilles on a non-contact injury while delivering a pass.

Winnipeg’s quarterback depth is thin behind Nichols. Alex Ross, a second-year man who has attempted just twelve career CFL passes, is currently considered the primary back-up. Chris Streveler, who was a perfect 10-of-10 passing in the Bombers’ first preseason game, has been getting the next most reps in training camp. He is a rookie out of South Dakota with no prior professional experience.
