Chip Cox returning to play 13th season with Alouettes

It looks like Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox will return to the field for a 13th CFL season.

The soon-to-be 35-year-old  was added to Montreal’s retired list after he suffered a season-ending injury on Oct. 9, 2017 and his contract with the Alouettes expired in February. He played in 15 games last season, making 67 tackles (second on the team.)

There had been some speculation that Cox might join the team in another capacity, either as a coach or a scout but general manager Kavis Reed left the door open for a return to the field.

“We would love to have Chip Cox be a part of this organization, Chip has done a tremendous job. He is a representative of what we want the Montreal Alouettes to be,” Reed said this winer. “We anticipate that Chip Cox will be a part of this organization next year.

“If Chip decides that he wants to play football, Chip will have an opportunity to play football here.”

A three-time CFL all-star, Cox has played all 12 of his CFL seasons with the Alouettes making 848 defensive tackles, 27 sacks, 25 forced fumbles, 23 interceptions and scoring six defensive touchdowns while adding 91 special teams tackles. Only one other season has the veteran missed a game that was in 2010.
