Much of the Twitter “beef” between CFL teams has a contrived feel to it these days but today’s little spat between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Ottawa Redblacks felt real enough.
It started when a fan asked for some dating advice…
Is “Can you stop being a @REDBLACKS fan?” a legitimate question to ask a girl you fancy?
Asking for a friend. @Wpg_BlueBombers, throw me a bone here.

The Redblacks responded quickly and took a shot at the Bombers’ Grey Cup drought, which is the longest current streak in the league. This did not sit well with the Bombers, who fired back – hard.
And we think the question wasn't addressed to you. What's that saying again?
Oh right.

That elicited a bunch of replies from fans accusing the Bombers of being a touch too salty and still out of sorts after the Darian Durant retirement debacle…

Wow @wpg_bluebombers take it easy the question was asked about @REDBLACKS and included in the conversation so… if throwing a bone to your fan means being rude to another team….. stay right where you are and don’t speak to the other teams (mind your mouth I think they say?)

Buy her a $70,000 ring to give up her fandom. Though she might just keep the ring and walk.

Bombers, you have experience with someone promising you something, you giving them a gift and then getting dumped. How do I deal with that? Thanks

For their part, the Redblacks continued to rub salt in the wound…
Woah 😬
Guess 28 years without a #GreyCup makes you bitter. https://t.co/Z2xZIRH3Du

And of course the Riders joined in…

Anyway, cooler heads eventual prevailed, everyone eventually claimed it was all in good fun and everyone reverted to their usual milquetoast responses.
The fact that the Bombers' social media team hasn't clapped back at the Redblacks with a joke about folding a bunch of times is both surprising and disappointing.
