I’m a big Rider fan, but an even bigger fan of someone who REALLY puts their family first. In this age where more and more families are fractured, one or both parents absent for their kids,and good role models are few and far between – I have always been a big fan of John Chick the person. Sir, over the years the accomplishments on the field will fade into the background, but your accomplishments as a husband and father will shine brighter every day. I doff my cap to you, good sir.

Jim: I agree with you 100% this time.
John Chick seems like such a nice person, it’s a bit awkward referring to him as a “beast”. Just a football term for an unstoppable player.
I have to admit, my first thought after his retirement announcement, was that big family of his.
We recently heard that big whiner, Victor Butler of the Toronto Argonauts, complain about his lot in life because he doesn’t make huge money in the CFL and has a wife and ONE kid, not nine like John Chick.That crybaby, Butler played for four or five years in the NFL too making millions.
John Chick wouldn’t whine or trash the CFL because he has a lot more class than Butler.
The CFL needs more players like John Chick. Not easy finding them though.

Great guy who had a solid career. 3x all-star, 72 sacks. One interesting trivia note about him is that he was almost certainly put on our neg. list by Roy Shivers. Not only is the timing right but he went to Shivers’ alma mater, so Roy would have had a close eye on him. Another interesting trivia note is that he’s Catholic, in spite of the fact that he went to Utah State. He’s so Catholic that he converted a Mormon girl he went to school with to Catholicism and then married her. And talking about a good Catholic boy with 9 kids I can’t help but think of the famous Monty Python skit:
