If your unsure that hits to the head don’t affect a mans brian. God rest his soul... Remember the state Mohamad Alli was in the last part of his life. I will never forget him being the last one on the Olympic torch run and his shaking hands, body and head as he light the flame to start the games.
His hits to the head were not football related. Dosent matter as a brain dose not discriminate as to who or how it gets hit. It will take on the Damage just the same.

@Robert Shmigelsky - - not a chance my friend. Majority of pro football players would prefer to be hit high and KTFO'd than have a guy dive at their lower legs and blow out a knee.

The great Larry Fitzgerald asks opposing DBs before games to just hit him high instead of going after his knees.

The biggest problem for retired NFL/CFL players is NOT concussions - - it's the game cheques ending, the groupies ending, the adoration of fans ending, the regimented daily schedule ending.

Majority of the players have spent their high school years, their college years and their pro careers - - 15 to 20 years in some instances - - being treated as royalty and living in a fantasy world. When that suddenly shuts off, "life" as they know it can become very dark.

It doesn't matter what they do with the helmets. The brain still bounces inside the skull.

The future is going back to rugby, but slower-paced

That is tragic.
With the latest study from John Hopkins and the study carried out by the Doctor that was made a villain by the NFL and the movie starring Will Smith, school boards are scrapping football.
It's the law suit potential, the high costs of insurance premiums and the very high cost of equipment.
Football is doomed in this country.

The CFL will continue but there won't be any Canadian players around. I'm fine with that, I like football, I like the CFL and I couldn't care less if there are a couple of 300 pound Canadian "O" linemen or where they are from.
The most exciting players are from south of the border.
The last CIS player to win an MOP was over FIFTY years ago!!!

I think that in the US more kids will continue to play football and parents are still encouraging their kids to go after a NCAA scholarship and will risk it.
In Canada it's a different story, schools are not risking law suits and high insurance premiums and the high costs of football equipment. Football is steadily declining in the number of players and the interest in the CFL.
The best Canadian football players that remain will likely get NCAA scholarships.
The future in the CFL is to scrap the ratio. The few Canadians that will play in the CFL, will be ex-NCAA.

Good to hear some genuine comments.Organizations who make big earnings from contact sports that cause head injuries, will always say the evidence is 'inconclusive' in my opinion. Always follow the money. As I understand the science so far, our brains go through another very vulnerable phase beginning in the teen years and lasting until about age 25. That, unfortunately is the age of most high school, coĺlege, and pro athletes. It only takes one brain injury to significantly damage a life! My son played 3 years of HS football- all star athlete. 2 brain injuries undiagnosed until 6 years later were enough to progressive rob him of any quality of life. Medically everything was tried but it was too late to make much difference cognitively. He ended his own life. I think their is a link to high suicide rates in young people, boys and girls, and the devastating impact of brain injuries. When we know young brains are vulnerable, to all kinds of things, how can we continue to argue over protecting young people's lives - it is lives we are talking about. Bravo to the players and the young people who choose their futures. Peace

Hitting the field? that's nonsense.
In fact the NFL teams going back to "real" grass and ditching the artificial turf. The problem is not hitting your head on the ground it's collisions with other players.
Players don't hit the ground head first or bang their heads on the field.
Head to head is obviously bad and wrong but your head into another players shoulder or anywhere else is not good either, it's the sudden jarring stop.

With all the studies, parents are taking their kids out of football, schools are dropping football programs too. There are for fewer kids playing football these days, yet the CFL still keeps the Canadian ratio at the same level.
Twenty years from now there will likely be only a handful of CIS schools playing football.

There are 125 High Schools in the Toronto area but only 25 still have football programs. But ALL 125 have soccer teams, junior, senior, boys, girls.
The future is NOT football
