Bombers QB Matt Nichols would like to be a GM in the future

Bombers general manager Kyle Walter has a potential protege in quarterback Matt Nichols.

Nichols has the ambition to work in a CFL front office after his playing days are done.

“Hopefully, it’s not for another eight years down the road but it’s something that I might be interested in doing when I’m done,” Nichols told Winnipeg Sun reporter Ted Wyman.

“That’s a part of the game I enjoy. I’m really trying to get to know the business side of it. It’s something I’m always very interested in. I keep up with every transaction around the league. I know, for the most part what everyone’s thinking and how the salary cap works and all that.”

The 30-year-old is coming off his best season in the CFL throwing for 4,472 yards and 28 touchdowns. Perhaps Nichols could help find the next franchise quarterback to take over for Winnipeg when he’s done.
