I always get frustrated at the “Let’s lower the Canadian ratio” suggestions. Its supposed to be the Canadian Football League, not NFL-north.
The seven Canadian starters is supposed to be a minimum, not a set maximum number. Relegating possible break out players because a team “Already has seven Canadian starters” is a further annoyance. Play eight or nine or ten Canadian starters then! Good teams like Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa have done so.
I think of a player such as Jason Arakgi. He is the all time Special teams tackle leader in CFL history. Yet Arakgi hardly ever got to play his true linebacker position in the CFL. Why not? The ratio limitation held him back from getting an opportunity, as it did and does with many others.

REED has added a lot of OLD fading talent from other teams. THIS is not the way to build a Championship team.

I’ve seen it dozens of times in my 50+ years as a CFL fan: an incompetent GM other teams’ dregs: ex-stars, trending downwards. While THOSE teams replace them with up and coming stars of the future, building towards a Championship team.

Anyone wanting to reduce the ratio just doesn’t get one of the points of the CFL: having a professional football league made up of Canadians for Canadians. This is OUR League would be a pretty ironic catchphrase if there were no Canadians playing, and nowhere for CIS talent to continue their careers.
Adding a Canadian QB slot, in some way or another, would be a great step IMO.
