But it’s not without precedence that minor offences were lumped in with serious crimes.
Ever heard of California’s controversial “Three strikes and you’re out” law? They used to have ANY three offences coukd get you locked up indefinitely.
They figured you just wouldn’t learn and were incorrigible.
Finally a guy with two previous serious offences got busted… for STEALING PIZZA! Sure enough, he got a life sentence!
Obviously the “Three strikes” should’ve ALL needed to be felonies.
