Just a minute. A stadium isn’t going to be a “CFL” stadium only. Will be lots of other things happening. So, it will be occupied a lot more than just nine times a year.

Halifax doesn’t have any kind of a sizeable outdoor stadium and it has long been needed here.

In reply to Killa. But a soccer stadium certainly wouldn't generate the spinoffs that a CFL stadium would. People don't understand that government money is more like a "front end loan". A lot of it would be repaid just by the tax revenue and jobs that such a venture would create.

People don’t just shell out $500,000 for a house. They get a mortgage and pay it off in small increments over 25 years. How is the stadium any different?
Get a bank loan to finance it. Impose a ticket tax and business tax to help defray costs. Naming rights, sponsorship and a modest investment from government can work. And no, it need not cost $250 million either.
The stadium wouldnt just be used for 9 or 10 days either. The Canadian Premier League soccer team could use it too. Saint Mary’s coukd play football there, including hosting the Vanier Cup. They coukd also have concerts, rugby matches and international soccer contests.
This stadium could be a valuable resource for Nova Scotia for decades… but so many just are defeatist small thinkers. I hope those types aren’t in the majority.

The regions have to support the team, not the other CFL teams who most struggle to make a profit.
Feds did NOT give any money to Regina or Winnipeg or Ottawa. So that is a dead issue, and they shouldn’t change that unless they retroactivievly provide that money to stadiums already built.
Regina tax payers put up $178M of the $278M. Province put in the other $100M. Regina has a population of 230k roughly?
The support has to be local or the team will never survive!! And a new Stadium doesn’t have to cost $278M. It can be way less.

I still believe if the CFL instituted a mandate into each 9 teams that they give a $1.00 from each ticket sold per game to a fund that would be in turn be used to help fund into a new teams ‘stadium ‘ infrastructure financing.

As sits now – that could work into $2 to $5 million the first year .

Lest the soccer trolls actually do some research for a change, I think we should clear up that the Gary Drummond of the Schooners is not the same guy as the late Alabama near billionaire Garry Drummond. I could be wrong but I think Pederson erred calling him a billionaire. If he actually is (which I very much doubt) we would have nothing at all to worry about.

You soccer trolls know nothing about this deal because the public doesn't have any details yet (they may not have even started negotiating a deal yet) but you come on here trolling the subject hoping it will fail.
