Well…not mystifying as such. The explanation simply puts the entire franchise i such a bad “nepotism” light, nobody really wants to talk about it. When the franchise goes under, I’ll be sure to spend a few years trying to peck out a book:

I officially hope my Alouettes pull themselves out of this hole. I really do. When Sherman was brought in (and when Calvillo was kicked out) my level of optimism shot up by 500%. But a GM claiming to be in the midst of a “youth movement” when it’s become clear some other, more disgusting form of “movement” is at hand, may have shot my optimism back down where it probably belongs.

I have no doubt Reed’s signing of Freeman was some form of concession to Manziel’s agent, “greasing the wheels” of a possible signing. I was sure, considering Freeman’s qualifications as a starting QB in this league, that he’s be dumped as soon as that didn’t pan out.

Manziel was Reed’s Hail Mary. His “look, I pulled a Popp and got another AC.”

I’ll be shocked if either happens. Reed, in his brilliance, has left himself with no plan “B”. And plan “M” has moved his *ss to the Spring League, and is as likely to get snatched up by an NFL squad as he is to sit the 2018 season on Hamilton’s “neg” list.

So much for optimism.

Montrealers will support a winner. They will abandon a loser, as they have done twice already.

If it weren’t for the tickets Montreal businesses buy to court prospective customers, there’d probably be 300 people at Molson Stadium, if that. The upside is, I keep getting offered free tickets nobody else wants to use.

If the Alouettes pull off a miracle and actually start winning, in might actually take them up on the offer.
