Riders in the mix for Adarius Bowman: sources

While Winnipeg, B.C. and Montreal are being mentioned as possible destinations for recently-released receiver Adarius Bowman, a dark-horse candidate has emerged according to CFL sources: the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Sources say the Riders are interested in Bowman to round out an already fearsome receiving corps that includes Duron Carter, Namaan Roosevelt and Bakari Grant.

Bowman was released by the Edmonton Eskimos on Monday as the team elected to cut him in loose instead of paying the $140,000 roster bonus that was due by the end of the day. Bowman reportedly earned $260,000 last season and was scheduled to make $265,000 this year, including the bonus. He now becomes a free agent.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound Bowman had a club-record 120 catches for a league-high 1,759 yards and nine TDs in 2016. He then signed a contract extension through 2018 that made him the league’s highest-paid non quarterback at the time.

Bowman cracked the 1,000-yard plateau three times over his six CFL seasons with Edmonton but struggled last year, registering 45 catches for 534 yards and five TDs over 12 regular-season games before adding five receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns in two playoff contests.
