Honestly? Johnny Headcase’s agent set a deadline that if not met would lead to Headcase pursuing (non-existent) opportunities.

Deadline has passed. So was his agent a lying sack of s**t?

Headcase now has no choice but to accept the offer, which is far more than a guy with his head and lack of skills deserves. Way to back yourself into a corner. But then no agent with any brains would waste his time representing this headcase/bust with no future on either side of the border.
