Riders allow Jeff Knox Jr. out of contract to pursue NFL opportunity

Saskatchewan is the latest team to let a player explore the NFL.

Saskatchewan brought Knox Jr. back into the fold after he 25-year-old was among the final cuts after the Tampa Bay Bucs completed training camp in 2017. He was released by Chris Jones and the Riders in January to pursue that NFL opportunity.

Knox Jr. played in eight games for the Riders making 23 tackles, seven special teams tackles and one sack last season. Prior to that, he played two seasons with Saskatchewan making 177 tackles, 29 special teams tackles, one sack and one interception in 35 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star after his rookie CFL season in 2015.

Knox was a pending CFL free agent.
