Johnny Manziel and Ticats roughly $350,000 apart: report

There is a gap between what Johnny Manziel wants and what the Ticats are offering.

TSN’s Farhan Lalji reports.

Hamilton offered Manziel a contract in the range of $150,000 with some minor incentives, but Manziel’s camp is looking for something in the range of $500,000.

[Erik] Burkhardt sees Manziel worth at least the same amount of money as starter Jeremiah Masoli.

The Ticats are not feeling any pressure to strike a deal of this magnitude with Manziel, but the team continues to be optimistic that Johnny Football will be a member of the Tiger-Cats for the 2018 season. However, coming to terms on a contract might take right up until training camp.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner has a self-imposed deadline to get a deal done with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that is supposed to end today, Jan. 31.

“If we cannot reach a deal with Hamilton by this date, we will turn our focus to several other professional options readily available to us,” agent Erik Burkhardt said in an early January statement.
