Jerry: Will you even remember James three years from now when the CFL expands into a new time zone?

I wonder why Andre Durie never whined like this? Didn’t he spend nearly a decade in these same unlivable conditions in Toronto?

Oh, I forgot. Andre was a class act and not an entitled son of a pro sports jock. Makes all the difference in the world.

There’s already been Canadian players who have chosen to give up on the CFL for similar reasons. Beveridge retired as soon as his number came up to be a fire fighter.

As for financial education for players … that will only help those who want to learn, which is typically few. One would think that running financial education session that clearly spell out that skipping participating in a pension plan where the employer matches the funds (i.e. double one’s money by making a contribution) is a bad idea yet it made a tiny difference in the participation rate. What made a difference was automatic enrollment that required the employee to opt out.

In reply to CFL lover. The answer is "being forced to work for the same employer or quit to sit" depends on the employment contract signed. Some contracts require one to work in a new industry (ex. construction instead of football) or sit at home until the time limit is up.

Wilder already spent THREE YEARS trying the NFL and getting released and being stuck on Practice squads with Cincinnati and Buffalo. I believe that the NFL doesn’t even allow players with more than three years to be on the Practice squad anymore. They also have progressively higher pay scales based on years in the league. So, for Wilder to stick, he’d have to make the actual roster and be judged better than first, second or third year prospects that would t need to be paid as high of a base salary. Both are big handicaps to making the team.
On top of all that, he wants to sit out a year and try the NFL in 2019 instead?? Have you heard the phrase “Out of sight, out of mind?”
I get the feeling that JW spent far more time playing football at Florida state than he did in the classroom. His math is a little off. And did anyone notice how he “times the amount” rather than multiplied by?
Lastly, he talks about the safety of being a construction worker vs playing football. James I’d bet that far more people get killed doing construction work than playing football.

Some of his numbers seem high, including a minimum of $3,000 for rent. Plus he doesn’t explain why he can’t have a room mate to cut costs. He also once again forgets to include $1,000 a month housing allowance OR $20,000+ in Grey Cup & Playoff bonus money.
Lastly, his “Head of the household” comment makes it sound like his wife can’t help out financially. He is the sole bread winner in the family. What is this, 1958??
