Ticats head coach Junes Jones teases Johnny Manziel ‘decision’

Hamilton’s bench boss teased a “decision” on the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner late Sunday night.

Jones, who recruited Johnny Manziel when he was coming out of high school in Texas, was ripped after saying Manziel “would be the best player ever to play up here.”

Manziel, whose CFL negotiation list rights are owned by the Ticats, has been in negotiations with the club but has not yet reached an agreement. His agent, Erik Burkhardt, issued a statement earlier in January broadly outlining their financial demands while also setting a Jan. 31 deadline to get a deal done.

The CFL could be the best spot for Manziel to return to pro football, especially after the XFL may not welcome him when the league begins to play in 2020.

The 25-year-old was selected in the first round, 22nd overall by the Browns in 2014. He threw for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 74.4 QB rating while going 2-6 as a starter for the Browns. The team released Manziel in March 2016 and no NFL teams have offered a contract since.
