You are totally missing the point. First of all Halifax isn’t even in the league yet. They do not exist and have not even been granted a franchise. All those other teams have franchises and I agree with you none should change their names. But to get silly and to go to extremes and mention Bears and Soldiers Field misses the point. The tragedy is called The Halifax Explosion, where 2000 people died and another 9000 maimed or blinded. Likely relatives of those dead people still live there. Choosing that name would be completely inappropriate. And it is not about Political correctness, for they have no team yet. Nothing in existence will be changed. It is about not picking a name that specially in some weird sense is named after a tragedy. In 100 years, it is ok for a New York team to be called 9/11’s. I am sure many Americans would be up in arms about that. How about nicknames like Holocaust, Titanic, witch burners, etc. I of course am being silly and taking it to the extreme, but no different than some of you. In respect to the relatives of those dead people, I think they can come up with a better name.

Disagree. I think the Lions orange jerseys look great. I may be bias though for I am a Lions fan. These proposed jerseys though I agree do not look good.

The team name Explosions have nothing to do with generic explosions. The name chosen is supposed to refer to the 1917 tragedy where 2000 were killed. If it had no reference to the tragedy then I have no problem with it, but it is not. It is chosen to try to make good out of a tragedy where 2000 died. It is inappropriate and frankly tasteless. Nothing to do with political correctness.

I know… I lobbied HARD for Ottawa to go w/RoughRiders. So, I revise my earlier comment – – I still think “Privateers” sounds awesome, but they should be the Halifax roughRiders (So, that would be DIFFERENT names – the Roughriders, the RoughRiders and the roughRiders).
