Ok , longtime Bomber season ticket holder here , a contract is a contract he signed it , play it out and prove you are an elite back! 8 games doesn't make an Allstar . He made 56,000 cdn ( not CFL fault about exchange rate and him having 4 kids to support ) He never mentioned about playoff and Grey Cup money which is another $15,000 so $71,000 isn't bad and to rip up contract and give him big money precident would cause the CFL to tumble back into financial instability again !

Carter is sure having fun in Greenland. As a Ticat fan, I’m looking forward to destroying the Argos in week 12 and 13; then watching Carter -Collaros team up to destroy them in week 15; will be a sad series of games for the Argos. And their fans.

Every team got a slice. I don't recall if the league was on the verge of folding altogether or what. It may well have been. I'm not really questioning that.

My point is that the notion that fans stepped up and collectively saved the club is historical cherry-picking. I did a quick search and oddly enough ended up on Rod Pedersen's blog ('cause he's the last person I thought would ever acknowledge it). Here's how it was described by former president Tom Sheppard.

===
We had moderate success raising money, but we needed to have a telethon. A week before the telethon, we were having a meeting and Vice-President Bob Ellard said to me 'are we going to make it?' I said it doesn't look like we're gonna make and it looks like we're gonna have to fold the team. It was March. But I said I got an interesting phone call and I think there's hope. I was supposed to be sworn to secrecy but within the Executive, they said I wasn't sworn to secrecy with them."

"Well it was Edmonton's Hugh Campbell who called me and said, 'Tom, are you real about this?' And I said yes. Well he said he and League Commissioner John Tory had met with the NFL and they were gonna give us a whole bunch of money. $500,000 per club. He said 'if you knew that, could you get by?' I told him we had to have x-amount by a certain date. He said we could announce the money, but not who it was from...So that was 1997 and that saved the team and a few months later we were in Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton watching the Riders in the Grey Cup."
===

They did meet their goal in 1987, however, so that has to be acknowledged as well.
