If the Alouettes are serious about putting together a younger roster, then keeping 2 older running backs would be a bad idea. I'll take Sutton over Rutley, even if Rutley's abilities as a receiver surpass Suttons'. You don't trade a guy who was voted "Hardest Player to Bring Down" in 2017.
Hopefully the Alouettes can bring some fresh RB talent into camp.

Seriously?

Austin who was hired Dec 17th, 2012 somehow had influence on the Nov 2nd, 2012 letting go of Rutley instead of Cortez/Obie combo?

Rutley finished the 2012 on the Inactive roster, after being on the IR. He posted a whopping 5 GP, 2 Carries for 17 yards and 2 Receptions for 24 yards.

I'm all for accountability but this is ridiculous.

Yep another on Kent Austin let go. If given the opportunity and with a decent O Line, BR will surprise, bet he's just happy to get out of Kavis Fred's circus.

He may be younger but when he took over from Sutton's injuries he didn't do much damage. Maybe about 1-3 yards at clip rarely more than that for a couple of years & got injured regularly as well. Sutton is still way more effective. Back-up RBs are easier to replace with youngsters in the pipeline.

Isn’t Sutton older as well? I don’t get this one , Rutley looked like a pretty good back. I thought it would be prudent for the Aks to hang onto both for competition and depth.

BR did not get the chance he deserved in Montreal. He has great hands and is faster than Sutton. JJ is a great running back. I wish JJ and BR could both get a chance to excel. Check out BR NFL highlights reel on YouTube. Impressive.

I’m not sure I understand this. I know the Lions are ok with Jeremiah Johnson. He didn’t have a great 2017 season. Then again no too many players did have a great 2017 on the Lions. So besides Jeremiah Johnson the Lions also have Tyler Davis. He’s not a small RB. He’s 5’10” and 195lbs out of Berkeley California. So where this signing fits in is mysterious. Unless it’s nothing more than setting up a competitive situation in camp. Maybe it’s to drive Jeramiah harder to sharpen his skill with good old fashioned competition. Jeremiah was a Bull Frog so he could jump when need be. hah
