Canadian Trey Rutherford accepts NFLPA Collegiate Bowl invite

Offensive lineman Trey Rutherford has accepted an invite to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

The U.S. all-star event has been around since 2012 and former head coaches include Dick Vermeil, Mike Martz, Tom Flores, Herman Edwards, Dennis Green, Mike Holmgren and Jim Zorn, all of whom have head coaching experience in the NFL.

There are a week of practices followed by a game on Jan. 21, live on Fox Sports 1.

Rutherford played in 12 games as a senior at the University of Connecticut. Over his Huskies career, the Markham, Ontario native played in 44 games. The six-foot-five, 312-pound offensive lineman is currently the second-rated prospect on the CFL’s scouting bureau.

Rutherford put forth a strong final season at UConn and further cemented his status as a top prospect in the 2018 CFL draft. If he shows well at the NFLPA Bowl more NFL looks could come.
