Protecting an asset. Taking Durant for Manziel is the sway-back mule for the race horse. I’d as soon take a chance on Kevin Glenn if you’re looking for a mentor, but Hamilton already has JJ’s buddy as a QB coach. Cats will offer a reasonable entry level contract with performance bonuses, and if it’s not good enough, it’s still the ante in the poker game, and Hamilton’s holding the good cards.

Don’t think Masoli needs that kind of guy looking over his shoulder when camp opens. Maybe a trade sending Darian Durant to Hamilton to be the #2 guy and mentor to Masoli could be worked out. Everybody would be better off for it.

Unless his agent has Manziel convinced there is zero chance of an NFL offer before the CFL training camps start.

If Naylor is correct … it is a two year offer, described as “competitive”, which is not likely a league minimum one.

If the league minimum is 50k and the most he could make in the CFL this year is say 200-300k if he was somehow able to negotiate with another team, if you’re net worth is in the millions and your goal is to spend 1-2 years in the CFL in order to get back to the NFL… that time not playing football suddenly becomes a lot more valuable than the money. My guess is they are negotiating over playing time or something to do with his exposure, not actual dollars and cents… but looks like the Cats have all the leverage for right now anyway.
