Tommy Condell gets second interview for Alouettes’ head coaching job

Toronto Argonauts receivers coach and former Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive coordinator Tommy Condell is getting a second interview for the Montreal Alouettes vacant head coach position, according to a CFL source.

3DownNation’s Justin Dunk reported that Condell had an initial conversation with Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed last week and the position remains open after Calgary defensive coordinator DeVone Claybrooks – long considered the front-runner for the job – pulled out of consideration over the weekend. B.C. Lion’s defensive coordinator Mark Washington is also thought to be a strong candidate.

Condell won a Grey Cup with the Argos in 2017 after joining the club as a special advisor in January, then moving to receivers’ coach after Marc Trestman was hired as head coach. He spent 2016 out of football after unexpectedly resigning from the Ticats in April.

In his three years with the Ticats, Condell helped the team make two Grey Cup appearances.  In his final season, the Tiger-Cats had the CFL’s top-ranked passing offence and were second in points scored, despite starting four different quarterbacks  – Zach Collaros, Jeff Mathews, Jacory Harris, and Jeremiah Masoli –  due to injury.
