Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Derek Dennis was the highest paid American offensive lineman in 2017 while playing left tackle and guard last season.
Dennis was signed to a lucrative three-year deal after winning the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman award in 2016. During his first year with the green and white the 29-year-old started out as the team’s left tackle, but after Bruce Campbell came out of retirement Dennis was shifted to left guard. He started nine games there and missed three due to injury.
The six-foot-three, 341-pounder made over $180,000 this past season and that rises to the high $180,000 range in the final two years. Re-signing Campbell is a priority for Saskatchewan which could mean Dennis stays on the interior of the offensive line. That versatility was one of the reasons the Riders paid him handsomely.
Bombers stalwart Stanley Bryant claimed the 2017 version of the same award Dennis won one year prior. He made $180,000 with Winnipeg last season while starting every single game at left tackle for the Bombers and continued his consecutive games played streak (65).
Bryant, a pending free agent, played at an elite level in 2017 and could be looking for a pay bump.
