Alouettes’ John Bowman: “couple teams” asked about availability at trade deadline

Alouettes defensive end John Bowman revealed that a “couple” teams inquired about trading for him at the trade deadline.

“It’s a weird question because for me and Kavis [Reed] it was a ‘no’ right away. But a couple teams called and asked about my availability and he let me know and asked me what I wanted to do. And he said he didn’t want me to leave and I didn’t want to leave,” Bowman said on TSN 690 radio in Montreal.

“I just want to be with my guys. I helped dig this hole and I want to help these guys try to patch it back up. I can’t imagine moving all my stuff out and going somewhere for a couple weeks, playing and coming back. I’ve got 300 pairs of sneakers. I love Kavis and people need to really give him a chance….People blame him for firing the coach too fast, it’s like he can do no right, right now.”

The 35-year-old defensive end has played all 12 of his CFL seasons in Montreal. He’s won two Grey Cup championships with the Alouettes while becoming the franchise’s all-time sack leader with 119 career quarterback takedowns, seven of those this season.

Montreal’s general manager was emphatic about allowing Bowman to decide his own future as an Alouette.
