Darian Durant on benchings and the return to Riderville

Darian Durant has been benched a number of times in Montreal.

The veteran quarterback does not agree with the number of times he’s been removed from games with the Alouettes.

“I’ve been pulled a lot more than I would have liked to have been, in some games where I felt it shouldn’t have happened,” Durant told Montreal Gazette reporter Herb Zurkowsky.

Durant’s latest trip to the pine came after he completed 8-of-14 passes for 92 yards with one touchdown and one interception in 30 minutes against Hamilton, the Alouettes trailed 26-7 at the break. That’s created some uncertainty surrounding Durant’s status as he makes his first trip to Saskatchewan since being traded by the Riders in the off-season.

“Who knows? I don’t even know if I’ll be playing,” Durant said when asked if he would be starting in Regina. “I have mixed emotions about that. I’m just looking forward to going back and seeing that stadium and enjoying the atmosphere. I don’t know what the decision will be. I’m preparing myself either way. If I do start I’ll try to make the most out of it.”

It’s been a rough season for the 35-year-old. Montreal’s offence sits last in the league with 302 points and the team owns the CFL’s worst record at 3-13. Durant has an 87.2 QB rating from completing 265 of 397 pass attempts (66.7 per cent) for 3,107 yards, 15 touchdowns and a league-high 15 interceptions, the most he’s thrown since 2010.
