In reply to mark. According to Wikipedia, MLS does indeed have a version of an International / Domestic player ratio. The Canadian ratio in the CFL has zero impact on fan interest. People who dislike the CFL now will not suddenly become fans if the ratio is removed and all players are Americans. If anything, removal of the ratio would have a negative impact on current fans, who like the CFL to offer positions to Canadian players. How does replacing Andrew Harris with an anonymous American help interest in Winnipeg?

The real problem keeping CFL living hand to mouth is the Ratio rules. Put the best players on the field that you can regardless of where they are from. Raptors, TFC, and Leafs have no Cancon rules. Look at them now. Free market now.

Soccer in Europe is so bad you can hardly tell what the actual team is. The sponsor image is 4x the tiny Manchester United logo. I like the NBA solution. For Cleveland just across lake Erie from London Ontario they have CAVS in big letters then a tiny Nike swoosh on the upper right and a Goodyear Tyre Winged foot logo over the heart. LeBron and Goodyear are both from Akron Ohio.

Shall I get into how that is a logical fallacy or is this just the Trump in you coming out? If the Riders draw 270,000 for 9 home dates, are those 270,000 spectators, or is it more like 20 thousands that went to every game and another 20-30 thousand (50K total) that went to at least one game? Sorry, there are not two million people who went to CFL games last year. Not even close.

Agreed it’s a pity for the CFL to sellout to the onslaught of consumerism… this is one area the NFL is better than us. Yes, the NFL has the revenue the CFL doesn’t but it’s a copout to suggest that the CFL and its teams need the revenue to afford the already comparatively meager budgets that keep this game afloat. They don’t – just as much as the English Premier League of the UK(the most-watched sports league in the world) doesn’t either. Ads on the playing field, on the scoreboards, during play stoppages, on the stadium… enough is enough. Really wish the new commissioner would take a stand on this commercialism assault. At least we don’t have one pathetically named as Chicago’s Guaranteed Rate Field.

The outgoing logo is from a railroad. Don’t know about you, but I haven’t really directly bought any good or service from CP Rail any time in the past.. well… ever. I’d say that this is a poor example of “consumerism”.
