Bombers put up concrete barriers after terrorist attack outside Commonwealth

The Winnipeg Football Club has taken further precautions after the attack that occurred outside Commonwealth Stadium last Saturday.

Concrete barriers have been put in at the Bomber home stadium to make it safer for those who use the sidewalks.

Winnipeg police said Monday they were making new efforts to use barricades to protect crowds from attacks like the one that occured in Edmonton Saturday night. Solomon Israel of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.

In that attack, which took place during a football game between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a car was used to run down a police officer outside Edmonton’s Commonwealth stadium. The driver got out and stabbed the officer, who survived, then fled on foot after the officer fought back. A U-Haul truck was later used to strike pedestrians in downtown Edmonton.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the violent event in Edmonton a “terrorist attack”.
