Singleton’s mother was a natural born Canadian, but that isn’t the only thing that had to happen for Singleton to be a National as I understand it.

It was explained during a radio interview last year when he first came to Calgary that he applied for and was granted dual citizenship on the advice of his agent. That’s what made him eligible for the draft.

I believe his Mother is a Canadian citizen, thus his status.

Singleton is a Canadian citizen, though you are right that, strangely enough, that seems like a bare technicality in his case.

Not sure how you’d close that kind of a technicality without having an even worse side-effect. If you require a player to play football at a Canadian University, you would be disqualifying a lot of other Nationals who went straight to NCAA schools, and if you require a player to have lived in Canada for a certain period of time, you’d disqualify a lot of non-Canadians who studied at Canadian Universities.

I suppose you could require that a player lived in Canada for an arbitrary period of time, but that just seems like a rule that could be abused even more easily than the Canadian citizenship one.

I can agree with Harris as top Canadian, however isn’t it almost a given that if you award MOP to a Canadian, than you also have to award MOC?
