OUA discussing non-contact practices

The Ontario University Football Conference, one of the USports feeders for Canadians in the CFL, is contemplating limiting contact by student-athletes in practice, according to Morris Dalla Costa of the London Free Press.

On September 13, 3DownNation broke the news about the CFL and CFLPA eliminating padded practices.

“We’ve discussed it and we’ve implemented some measure to limit contact in practice,” OUA chief operating officer, Gord Grace said. “It is something we will review at the end of the year as well. As we become more knowledgeable, as the standards begin to change you’ll see us implement stronger measures. It’s not like we can implement new policies midseason but it’s something that we will take a look at the end of the year.”

“In terms of in-practice we have limited the amount of contact, but we also know that we need to implement different things in the future and that’s what our football leadership group will look at at the end of the year.”

The OUA is analyzing ways to make the game as safe as possible.
