Interesting take by Dave Naylor, who kind of nailed it by calling out those with “moral outrage”, being some of the same people who shelled out $100 to watch the Mayweather circus and in some cases profited off the wager). That particular wife beater seems to have profited nicely and any outrage was overshadowed.
In regard to this incident, it’s another example of athletes in high profile developmental leagues (NCAA, etc) getting extra protection for the goofy-ass crimes they commit. Throw in a coach who turns a blind eye, all toward the cause of winning games/satisfying alumni/generating TV revenue and the cycle continues. A stain on hamilton. I wouldn’t say the CFL is completely off the hook, but Hamilton did all the legwork and Mitchell’s actions here are more stupid than anything else…even with an 0-8 record. Good on Ambrosie for stepping in. Things like this should not be tried in the media…rather directly with the source. The wrong was righted and Hamilton will live with the aftermath. Go Cats on Labour Day. Now let’s play some football…..

Really really poor descision by the Cats. I expected during the press conference they
Would announce that along with Barry’s Jewlers they too would be making a donation
To the Woman’s Sexual Assult Centre. Bob Young has put a lot into this team, I hope
they have learned their lesson and That Ticat fans will continue to support the team. Time will tell.

It would be interesting to know if any of the purpetrators of the alleged sexual assaults at Baylor (ie- the players) are currently employed in either the NFL or CFL. It would be equally interesting to see if there is the equivalent moral outrage over their employment. Historically, football fans have been very forgiving towards talented players who can help their team win.

I’m not saying that the Tiger-Cats should have hired Briles (they shouldn’t have), but…

How much Did they have to pay Briles to Walk away,No doubt Bob Pays again,How many players and coaches, General managers that were paid Premium Salaries for Millions of Dollars have been fired.And Had to be paid off. Lets put a list together June Jones had a lot to do with this also.Poor June.

They hired Tillman. What’s new, he was one of the decision Makers. Scott Mitchell , Austin and there agent Gil Scott. They all talked Bob Young into it and other knuckle heads. That took a hit to the face.

It’s truly shocking the Toronto Star even had a CFL story in its Sports section. The Toronto Star, like Sportsnet, will report on anything to denigrate the CFL.

By the way, the police have not charged Art Briles with anything.

“Randy Ambrosie saves the Ticats from a major blunder today” Wait a minute… the league posted a big news feature of this on the CFL.ca website. The league didn’t post anything about his past or this being controversial. It was only after the outpouring of negative response that incited them to act. Yes, once they did, they did the right thing and were lead by Randy Ambrosie who took action.

But it was the overwhelming response by fans and media that changed the course of this. Not the commissioner. He knew about the hiring before and did nothing. So why is he the hero?

I love the league and seeing disparaging stories such as SI.com’s reporting of it, really put a stain on it. All the knives come out and they call the CFL a ‘backwater league’. As bad as all this is, I hope this sets the bar higher for future negotiations – ie.: Johnny Manziel.
