Montreal Alouettes

Argos QB Ricky Ray expected to start against Alouettes

The Toronto Argonauts have listed Ricky Ray as their starting quarterback ahead of Saturday’s game against the Montreal Alouettes.

The Argos released their depth chart this morning with Ray ahead of Cody Fajardo and Jeff Mathews, who started Matthews started in last week’s 21-9 road loss to Montreal. Matthews was 8-of-12 passing for 67 yards while Fajardo completed 10-of-16 passes for 75 yards. Running back Brandon Whitaker was Toronto’s top offensive threat with 96 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Ray was hurt in Toronto’s 41-24 home loss to Calgary on Aug. 3.

The Alouettes (3-4) can clinch the season series with a sweep of this home-and-home set after last week’s victory in Montreal.  Toronto (3-5) has dropped three straight but Ray is crucial to coach Marc Trestman’s pass-first offence and having him back under centre is huge for an Argos team that needs a win to keep pace the conference.
