Well obviously they sign players based on their abilities but the point is that they give everyone a chance rather than prevent a player from coming to the CFL because of their colour or religion. That's why Chuck Ealey and Bernie Custis came to Canada because they were denied an opportunity to play quarterback in the NFL where the thinking was that Black Men couldn't lead or play and position where they might have to instruct white players And that wasn't all that long ago. The CFL has always welcomed all players to try out and if they are good enough they will play regardless of their colour

This diversity idea is nice and all but is quite meaningless and merely a feel good thing. Cfl teams sign players based on their ability to play football. They could care less what a player’s skin colour, or heritage is. Diversity as it pertains to colour or cultural background does not make the league better, bad or otherwise. Diversity of football skill and ability however does.
