I forgot to say that yes, they should look into streaming as well, and yes these numbers would be counted. There is a signal embedded in the official broadcast and if you’re wearing one of those Numeris trackers it will record that signal no matter what platform you’re watching, and no matter when you watch it. If you record a game and watch it later it will be recorded. It just won’t be recorded with the “overnight” numbers that are released the next day.

The numbers are a bit of a concern and the league should certainly pay attention to them, but they’re not all that bad and other leagues are doing much, much worse. I believe Blue Jays numbers have been falling steadily as more and more people fall asleep and fall off the bandwagon. They had a spike like their recent one about 20 years ago too, but when the team fell back to mediocrity their numbers fell back to about the 300,000 range. People can only really handle watching the Blue Jays when they’re winning. And MLS is a disaster from a ratings standpoint, particularly TFC. I believe they’re averaging around 50,000, and no I didn’t miss a zero.

Those aren’t very low numbers for TSN. The RDS numbers could easily match those which would make that the most watched game of the week. That said, I generally think that non holiday Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoon games are bad times that generally draw lower numbers both in the seats and on TV. I think most games should be on Sunday afternoons.

I agree TSN and the league need to offer a reasonable PPV streaming option for the growing number of cable-cutters. They can’t just keep all their eggs in one basket until 2022.

On a related note, I discovered last week that there’s no legitimate way for a Canadian TSN subscriber to stream games on ESPN3 while travelling in the States. You have to be an ESPN or affiliated subscriber to log in to the site! Surely there should be an option for TSN subscribers to log in, given that TSN is producing the broadcast and ESPN owns 20% of TSN?

It was an American team that led the CFL in attendance in 1994….and 2d in 1995….the first time they tried American expansion…….St. Louis fit the Baltimore profile in that they also lost their NFL franchise…but again….I am not wedded to St.Louis…….an American International game or another team might generate more TV money (US rights anyway) and that is what really financially enables these leagues these days..streaming and Internet also of course…..just seems like a logical place to look for growth/renewal.

CFL needs better marketing as badly as it needs better…truly professional officiating. This season has been crazy competitive and exciting so far. Football is king of the sports…CFL fading away…..what is wrong with this picture? Earth to CFL…get it together already.
