Slam Dunk picks: Opportunities in Week 2

After nailing Edmonton on the money line in Week 1 let’s keep the winners coming.

Week 2 presents some intriguing lines, most notably the Lions entering BMO Field as three-point underdogs and the Bombers a small favourite for the first ever regular season CFL game at new Mosaic Stadium.

Ottawa Redblacks (0-0-1) at Calgary Stampeders (0-0-1)

Thursday, June 29, 9 p.m. EST

These two teams meet at McMahon Stadium for the back end of a home-and-home set. The Stamps had a fortunate replay call go their way in Week 1 which allowed them to stay in the game and kicker Rene Paredes had a chance to win it for the visitors in overtime, but his field goal attempt went wide and that led to a tie.

Calgary tends to start season openers slow and getting back home where Dave Dickenson’s bunch went a perfect 9-0 should provide a familiar setting for the white horses to gallop for a win, but Ottawa keeps it close.

Line: Stampeders favoured by 7.5 points

Pick: Ottawa

Bet: $11 returns $10

B.C. Lions (0-1) at Toronto Argonauts (1-0)

Friday, June 30, 7 p.m. EST

This line would have been drastically different before Week 1 with all the hype the Lions were getting and few if anyone predicted what the Argos did. After that, Toronto is a three-point home favourite.

B.C. comes across the country on a shortish week. The Leos offensive line must be better. That said, Wally Buono’s group is ultra athletic and left some points out there against Edmonton in their season-opening loss.

Line: Argos -155 and favoured by 3 points

Pick: B.C.

Bet: $5 money line returns $6.75 and $11.50 spread returns $10

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-0) at Saskatchewan Roughriders (0-1)

Saturday, July 1, 9 p.m. EST

Andrew Harris and the Bombers are keen on ruining the party at the new digs in Saskatchewan and all the pressure is on the hometown Riders to open the building with a victory.

Winnipeg has not played a full game with their finalized roster, yet, which gives some pause. But you’re getting the team wearing blue and gold who has more talent at essentially a pick’em. It’s the prudent play even though it seems too easy.

Line: Bombers favoured by 1 point

Pick: Winnipeg

Bet: $11 returns $10

Season record against the spread: 1-2

Money line: 1-0

Bankroll: $85 left from starting $100 budget
