Linebacker Bear Woods took less money to join the Toronto Argonauts than he was originally scheduled to make before the Alouettes released him, but the up-front cash he received from Montreal softens the blow.
Sources say Woods will receive $110,000 in “guaranteed” money from Toronto, where he touched down on the same day the Alouettes released him, on the one-year deal he signed earlier this month, including $80,000 in base salary, $20,000 in housing, $5,000 if he plays in one game – which should be easy enough – and $5,000 for travel.
That’s down from the $170,000 Woods would have made in Montreal, who released the 2016 CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player on May 29, right before the start of training camp.
With $20,000 already paid – which will still count against the Alouettes’ salary cap – Woods is out $40,000 for the season.
