Montreal Alouettes

Former Riders, Bombers and Argos QB Drew Willy signs with Als

Montreal signed quarterback Drew Willy to a one-year deal Monday.

He provides the Alouettes with an experienced backup behind starter Darian Durant, considering Vernon Adams Jr., Jacory Harris and Matthew Shiltz have little to no starting experience.

The 30-year-old pivot was released by the new Argos regime on cutdown day, June 17. With $70,000 already in his pocket, Willy did not even dress in the Argos final pre-season game.

Toronto acquired Willy last September for American defensive back T.J. Heath, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft and a 2018 third rounder. He played in four games completing 77 of 113 passes for 681 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. While with the Bombers, Willy made 28 starts completing 513-of-781 passes (65.7 per cent) for 6,385 yards, 31 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. The University of Buffalo product began his CFL career with Saskatchewan in 2012 and he was traded to Winnipeg on February 2014.
