CFL issues explanation for replay call

Unless you were diligently following the CFL’s Twitter feed during the game you probably missed it but the league issued an explanation for the head-scratching replay call in Thursday’s game between Montreal and Saskatchewan.

To set the stage: with the Saskatchewan Roughriders trailing the Montreal Alouettes 7-0 late in the second quarter, replays appeared to show Riders’ receiver Bakari Grant fumbling before he crossed the goal line on a touchdown catch. The play was ruled good on the field but all scoring plays are reviewed and video evidence seemed to indicate the ball came out before the ball crossed the line.

The play will likely be reviewed early next week as part of the CFL’s usual process.

The call was ripped by the CFL on TSN panel at halftime of the game and the source of some consternation on social media. Nonetheless, the Alouettes won the game 17-16, which some have attributed the will of the Football Gods.
