Anthony Allen slams Riders after release

Running back Anthony Allen doesn’t sound particularly pleased by the way the Saskatchewan Roughriders handled his return and eventual release from the team.

According to Allen, assistant vice-president of football operations and administration Jeremy O’Day called in early June and to see if he was willing and able to return to Saskatchewan after playing for the club in 2014 and 2015. The 28-year-old spent last season with the Riders and was a free agent at home in Florida when O’Day called and it sounds like Allen gave up quite a bit in order to resume his football career.

Allen had six carries for 25 yards in Saskatchewan’s 25-25 ties with Edmonton, then had just one carry for six yards as the Riders ran the ball just four times while getting walloped 42-10 by the B.C. Lions.
