Alouettes workout former NFL quarterback Josh Freeman: report

According to the Gazette’s Herb Zurkowsky, the Montreal Alouettes worked out former NFL quarterback Josh Freeman today.

The 29-year-old Freeman attended the Calgary Stampeders mini-camp this spring and was on the team’s exclusive negotiation list since September, 2015. But the 29-year-old did not show well enough to earn an invite to Stamps training camp and was subsequently dropped off the neg list.

The Alouettes currently have 34-year-old Darian Durant slated as their starting quarterback, though he suffered an injury in training camp and did not appear in the team’s first pre-season game last week (he is back practicing, however.) The team also has second-year man Vernon Adams, free agent pick up Jacory Harris and rookie Matthew Shiltz under contract.

Freeman was a first-round pick, 17th overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009. He started 61 games over seven seasons with three different teams, compiling 81 touchdowns, 68 interceptions, 13,873 yards  and a 77.6 quarterback rating. His last start came in January 2016 with the Indianapolis Colts and he was out of pro football last season.
