Montreal Alouettes

Alouettes ink national and local defensive back

Canadian defensive back Mikael Charland has signed a one-year deal with the Alouettes, per sources.

The 25-year-old was released by Ottawa on Monday. He quickly found a new team in Montreal, the same city where the six-foot-four, 219-pounder played university football at Concordia.

Charland was selected in the second round, 16th overall by the Redblacks in last year’s CFL draft. A groin injury during Ottawa’s first pre-season game in 2016 set the Gatineau, Que. native back in his rookie season.
