American running back Shakir Bell has signed a one-year deal with the Ottawa Redblacks, per sources.
The 25-year-old broke into the league with Edmonton and spent two years with the Eskimos. He rushed for 1,058 yards and two touchdowns while making 34 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns over two seasons and 15 games with Edmonton.
Bell had a workout with the New England Patriots in December, but no contract was offered by the reigning Super Bowl champions. Some of the reasons for the delay in Bell putting pen to paper, include waiting for other possible NFL opportunities and agent Jonathon Hardaway and his slow and meticulous way of doing contracts.
