Jones didn’t exactly turn around an Eskimos franchise. 17 of the 24 starters from the 4-14 team were still starting on the 2015 team. Check the rosters. As for his other 3 Cups, he won those on his 1st year joining Mtl, Calgary & Toronto. He didn’t “build” those teams, he inherited them. He came to Regina with a much ballyhooed reputation of making teams a winner – as with all things Riders, some fans blow it all out of proportion. Rider fans have every right to be disappointed &, yes I’m okay with moving on from Durant, but the 37 year old Glenn is not what I call “moving on”.

I find it amazing that people are blaming Jones for what happened with the negotiations around Durant’s contract. In my opinion the minute Montreal entered the discussion with up front money the negotiations changed. I think Durant and/or his agent were hoping to use the Montreal offer to try and leverage more money from the Riders. As I understand it the Riders had put a offer out there that included a lower front end but with benchmarks and incentives that could have generated a good payday by season end.

Was/is Durant well liked by the fans, yes. Did he do a lot for the Riders and the community, certainly.

Some people are saying that Chris Jones is airing dirty laundry in public. From where I am sitting they both are. If Durant is so heartbroken to be leaving maybe he should have thought twice about taking the offer from Montreal.

Is Chris Jones perfect…hell no, but is anyone? I watched him turn around an Edmonton franchise that was pretty pathetic. Seems he might know something about the game and how to build a team. One thing I will give him credit for…I didn’t hear about one Rider player getting in trouble with the law last season. It’s been a very long time since that happened.

Do I cheer for the Riders, yes. Was I happy with some of the decisions Jones made when it comes to guys like John Chick or Weston Dressler, no but I don’t cheer for the coach…I cheer for the guys who are on the field on game day.

Here’s hoping the Riders have a great 2017 season and this “tempest in a teapot” is forgotten sooner rather than later.

Good comments E W, I’m curious to see who he brings to training camp May 28. It would be hard to image all his receivers do as I assume he’s bring in some newbies.Does the league have an “eye in the sky” in Regina watching body numbers?
