Last I heared this EXACT sentence was Jim Popp about Jonathan Crompton. Crompton can’t throw a hitch, go to his 2nd reading or make a correct downfield checkdown, complete 60% of his passes, but he has a lot of “intangibles”. Mumbo jumbo, that’s what it is.

Troy Smith comes to my mind immediately. Forecasted failure where coaching time will be took off younger guys agenda for a washed out guy out of football since, not 1, not 2, but 6 years. Riders fans deserve better.

I hope Glenn stays, goes to TC and toss him out. Even though Glenn is over the hill, at least he knows what the CFL game is.

No risk Part 2. Today I read where Belichek is asking for two 1st round draft picks for Jimmy Garoppolo, with all of 2 games starting & should get them. Manziel apparently has 10 teams interested in him. Poor QB’s are a huge issue in the NFL. So, let’s say Vince Young is half decent. After 1 year here he goes south & the Riders are back to square 1 looking for young Mr. Right & dissing Glenn in the process. Oh yes, Franklin. Problem a) does Hervey sit there & get nothing or trade him prior to FA? Duh. Problem b) there may be 3 non-playoff teams interested in Franklin. Problem c) Toronto has a then 38 yr old Ray & has the resources to outbid even the Riders should they so choose if Hervey hasn’t already traded him outside of the Western conference. Waiting for Franklin to solve your problems? Good luck. Chances aren’t good he’ll ever be in Regina.

Good points and to that I might add (although I heard it being discussed on radio so not my original idea) the fact that the younger pivots are going to lose snaps in training camp because Young is going to need them to even have a slight chance of getting up to speed. At the age of 34 (by the time the season begins), he is hardly a good candidate as a long time starter while one of the younger QBs might be. Naylor had a good article on the TSN site about why it would be hard for Young to have success as a starter. Rider fans – and others – who think this can or will work should probably take time to read it. I doubt VY is looking to be a back up but that’s probably his best chance to learn the many different nuances of the CFL game.

I believe the Vince scenario will cost the Riders a lot of money. Chris Jones will cost the Riders a lot of cash. He has raided free agency and now the NFL dredges. I feel bad for Kevin Glenn even though he is very tired. Good luck rider fans.

It’s not all about Vince??? Well it clearly is. It takes the spotlight off other problem areas like the OL-better hope we get Deane. How about RB? Can he block? One great game but Ottawa’s #3 with 43 career carries? Two National ex-Esk backups with 15 carries between them? If we don’t fix the OL there goes the run game & the WRs may be waiting a long time for the pigskin.
