Six quick thoughts on the Ticats schedule

Published on

First, here’s the schedule.

I’ll be posting a full story later in the day but here are some quick thoughts.

• Ticats open the season against Argos on Sun., June 25 then have a bye Week 2.
• they have their second bye Week 10, then play ten straight games to finish the regular season.
• they then play six straight against the West Division, including a brutal stretch that includes three games in 13 days (followed by a trip to Calgary, followed by a trip to Edmonton.) That’s tough on a lot of levels.
• they don’t play a home game until Week 4 on July 15, then have another game at Tim Hortons Field five days later.
• the Labour Day Classic is set for Mon., Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m., the second straight year it’s an evening game. There’s no home-and-home set with Argos after the Labour Day Classic, as there is most years: Hamilton will instead travel to Ottawa to face the Redblacks the following week.
• the Ticats play zero afternoon games at home and the earliest start is 6:30 p.m. Their home dates: one Thursday, four Friday, three Saturday, one Monday. There are no Sunday home games.

From a football perspective, it looks like a tough schedule and I’m not getting the sense that fans are too thrilled, either. But there’s one guy that seems pleased with the opener at least…
