IMO anytime you can get players that are good enough to go to the NFL, even if you only have them for one season you’ve done a good job of recruiting. Yes, some of the former Esk’s didn’t pan out. Foster was a good player for us. Willie Jefferson was and will continue to be a difference maker for us. Sewell wasn’t going to sign with anyone other than the Esk’s. His fiance` lives in Edmonton and he plans on becoming a city police officer in the Alberta capital after football. Sheritt wasn’t needed as the Riders had signed Greg Jones from Toronto (and subsequently signed Henoc Muamba). They’ve added Duron Carter this year to further enhance an already good receiving core (Holley, Collins Jr., Edwards, Craig, all added last year and Roosevelt actually given a chance to play). I would say that year 2 is well under way and we haven’t even hit free agency yet. If after year 3 we don’t have a very competitive team then you can say I told you so. In the meantime give Jones an opportunity to build the team according to his plan. And when he succeeds I hope all you naysayers have the decency to acknowledge what he has done.

If he makes it in the NFL, good on him, but a loss for the Riders. So of the much ballyhooed FA’s who “followed” Chris Jones to Regina, Andrew Jones remains. Foster, Chambers & Lawrence are all gone. Perhaps Jones is blinded by players from his old teams – 12 ex-Eks & 4 DB’s from the Stamps were on the roster @ 1 time or other in 2016. Nine remain – Hecht & Campbell from Calgary, Alexandre, A & K Jones, Morris, Rodgers, Reaves & Coleman from the Esks. Notably 2016 FA’s Bowman, Sewell & Sherritt DIDN’T come over. I suspect that Jones will be bringing more ex-players from Alberta. Hopefully the haul is better this year. My hope was that when Jones came over he would score some big names that actually stayed & that much boasted about eye for talent would land us some real difference makers out of mini-camp. It sure looks to me like Year 2, with all the releases AGAIN, is Year 1 all over again & Durant’s criticism about the lack of continuity will continue. Are we going to see the same gong show in 2017.
