During the 2016 CFL season there was wide-spread speculation about the 25-year-old becoming a free agent this coming February, but that’s not the case. Franklin is under contract with Edmonton for the 2017 season. That means Hervey wants to extend the signal caller’s commitment to the Esks.

Franklin made one start last year, Week 20 against the Argos, throwing for 335 yards and four touchdowns in a convincing 41-17 victory.

The Missouri alum has played in nine games over two seasons in Edmonton, completing 103 of 157 passes for 1,307 yards with 10 touchdowns and one interception. The dual-threat pivot has rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.
