Ten players change teams in CFL’s double secret neg list draft

It’s the draft you’ve never heard about: the CFL negotiation list draft.

Held on Friday with 11 players changing teams, the draft is for non-veteran free agent players who were on a neg list, signed to a team roster were subsequently released during the 2016 season and did not sign with another franchise. Each player who falls under that category is able to be put on a neg list during the draft. The clubs that previously signed and released the player has exclusive access to put that athlete on their neg list up until the neg list draft. At that point, it becomes a draft – same as the regular draft order – for those players. For a team to add a player to the neg list – unless under the maximum capacity of 45 – another would have to be dropped off.

(Note: team in brackets was the club who had the rights to that player entering the draft.)
